Demo stand: Lightweight content depositing – SWORD
First things first – SWORD stands for Simple Web-service Offering Repository Deposit, and it’s a JISC-funded protocol for taking content from one place and putting it somewhere else.
The idea behind it is to provide a standardised tool for depositing content, and allowing similar functionality across sites and repositories – nothing along those lines currently exists.
Adrian Stevenson from UKOLN demonstrated the various interfaces SWORD offers, including a widget to use on your personalised homepage via Netvibes. He also showed onlookers how to upload content, using a photo of himself as a guinea pig, showing how the tool works in DSpace, EPrints, IntraLibrary and Fedor.
